Editorial standards

The rules our reporting is held to. If we fall short of them, tell us and we will correct the record.

Accuracy

Every factual claim is checked against a primary source before publication. Where a figure is contested we say who is contesting it.

Sources

We prefer named sources. Where a source speaks on background we say why anonymity was granted, and we do not grant it for criticism of a named individual.

Corrections

Errors are corrected promptly and visibly. Material changes are stamped at the top of the article, and every correction is listed on our corrections page.

Conflicts of interest

Reporters disclose holdings in companies they cover and recuse themselves where a conflict cannot be managed.

Advertising

Commercial content is labelled. The newsroom has no commercial targets.
